[UPDATE] Substantial is officially an AUTHOR + New Music!
SHE SEES: BASED ON THE SONG IN MY DAUGHTERS' EYES BY SUBSTANTIAL
We are pleased to announce the release of our children's book, She Sees, a children's picture book adapted from Substantial's song, In My Daughters' Eyes. She Sees is a Black father's observation of the world through the eyes of his two young daughters. This picture book takes readers on a journey of a father who witnesses his daughters, Serenity and Destiny, begin to make sense of the world around them and their place in it. The book is illustrated by Mierra "Lunabunneh" Nelson and edited by Rachelle Etienne-Robinson.
When you order the book through Bandcamp, it comes with an ebook copy of She Sees and an early digital copy of Substantial's new project, A Soundtrack for Fatherhood. ASFF is a collection of new and previously released songs. The music is inspired by both his experiences as a father and by the new book.
The beats on ASFF are Substantial's signature jazzy and soulful sound including several self-produced tracks including three all-new songs. Other production credits include Marcus D, Allmos (fka Algorythm) ½ of the production duo The Stuyvesants, Oddisee, and Jon Laine.
A Soundtrack for Fatherhood also includes guest appearances by Stephanie Gayle (fka Steph the Sapphic Songstress), Asheru, Kokayi, Gods'Illa, Jsoul, DJ RBI, DJ AAROCK, and Fjer.
Stream the second single Dedicated and Driven now on all platforms and watch the official music video below. A Soundtrack for Fatherhood is also available on all streaming platforms.
As always, thanks for your continued support and stay tuned for more news and music.

HIP HOP WIRED 2020 CREATIVE CLASS HONOREE
HipHopWired.com recently selected Substantial as a 2020 Creative Class Honoree.
They had this to say "Substantial is both thoughtful and intentional with his words, two hallmarks of a champion rapper and wordsmith, and a credit to his name. What he says carries weight, and aligns with him being tapped as an instructor at Omega School, and business mentor in the company he owns with his wife, Substantial Art & Music." [WEEKLY UPDATE] Bop Alloy - What's It Without You ft. Pismo & T.Lucas + Merch & more
What's It Without You (WIWY), the debut single from Winter Breaks 2, Bop Alloy's follow up to their Hip-Hop holiday classic, Winter Breaks, is Substantial & Marcus D doing what they do best. Substantial delivers contemplative, solemn bars over Marcus D's signature melancholy, jazzy rhythms. The Jazz Rap/Jazz Hop duo is joined by frequent collaborators, Pismo providing smooth vocals on the hook and T.Lucas who reflects on the recent passing of his father. WIWY is a reflection of the toll 2020 has taken on people's lives and how they've adapted to "the new normal". Marcus D states, "This is probably the first time a lot of us won’t be able to spend the holidays with our loved ones, some in different ways than others. We’ll eventually get back to normal, but for now, it’s important to keep our families safe... so if this is looking like it’s gonna be a blue Christmas for you, just know you’re not alone and Bop Alloy got your back."
Winter Breaks 2 drops December 4th on Bandcamp and December 11th on all digital streaming platforms.
BOP ALLOY SWEATSHIRTS & HOODIES

[NEW MUSIC] Priest Da Nomad - Proud feat. Oddisee and Substantial
Peace World.
New collab alert: Priest Da Nomad - Proud feat. Oddisee & Substantial | Produced by DJ Roddy Rod
"There is a movement of quality MCS and artists coming out of the Washington DC area or as many nowadays call it, the “DMV”. What many outside of the area don’t know is that so many of these MCs are intimately connected, even if they are in different crews. Three such powerhouse MCs that are currently and separately contributing to the landscape of underground hip hop worldwide, just happen to be from this DMV area and have teamed up to simply show their pride of being conscious black men reppin' and being positive impacts on their communities. Priest Da Nomad, Oddisee, and Substantial present “Proud”, a soulful sonic collaborative bomb produced by DJ RODDYROD that will be sure to give the listener neck spasms! Enjoy!"
