[MUSIC] Earleybird 'Full Time Job' ft. Substantial
So about a month ago or so I posted lyrics to a song I wrote called 'Full Time Job' with my friend, MC & Peer to Peer Specialist for Jail Diversion in Fairfax County, Virginia, Kevin Michael Earley a.k.a. Earleybird. The lyrics are inspired by the deaths of Michael Brown & Robin Williams. The song talks about police brutality and suicide and is featured on Earleybird's new album 'White Man's Burden'. It was recorded months ago but was just posted yesterday via YouTube after hearing the Grand Jury decision in Ferguson.
Please take a moment to listen. By the way, if the hook sounds slightly familiar it's because some of the lyrics were borrowed from the late great Pimp C #RIP.
Listen. Enjoy. Share. Speak Up. Act.
Stay in PEACE... even in the midst of chaos.

With Fall in full swing, it's only fitting that Substantial & Marcus D officially release their latest single, Autumn Leaves. Guest vocals from the always soulful Pismo, add the perfect touch to this Autumn anthem while Marcus D's stellar production sonically captures the coolness and brilliant colors of the season. Substantial's lyrics, inspired by Gordon Park's book To Smile In Autumn, talk about setting new goals after reaching those from his youth as his life approaches the Autumn years.
It’s like I reached that point where many folk lives get froze
Instead I’m busy living most of my childhood goals
Never stagnant, forever I’ll strive for more
This elevator’s barely above the bottom floor
Autumn Leaves is from Bop Alloy's critically acclaimed 2nd album, Another Day in the Life of... if you're a vinyl record enthusiast, you'll be happy to know that the duo recently released Limited Edition EP version on 12" vinyl. Pick up your copy today and don't forget, there's more Bop Alloy right around the corner. The Winter Breaks Digital-Only EP drops this December 2014.

[PHOTOS] Homeboy Sandman in Arlington, VA & Kokayi in DC - 10/24/2014
Peace World.
These are a few shots I took at the Homeboy Sandman event I attended in Arlington, VA & Kokayi's event in Washington, DC last night while I was hanging out with Joe of The Other Guys. Check'em out.
By the way, although I enjoy taking photos, I am not a photographer. You know who is though, my man, Nick Fullen. Check out his website that I helped design/build with him: www.photogenickfullen.com
Nick will be shooting photos for my upcoming album cover art and more. If he looks familiar, it may be because you might remember from my HIWTAI Mini-Doc from a few years ago. Stay tuned.
Enjoy. Stay in Peace.

[MUSIC] Substantial - To This Union A Sun Was Born - Executive Producer: Nujabes (Full Album) 2001 #TBT
Peace World. Substantial's debut album, To This Union A Sun Was Born, featuring production from the late great Nujabes, and Monorisick, now known as DJ Deckstream now available on Youtube for your streaming pleasure. This deluxe edition features 3 bonus tracks, including the DJ Kiyo remix and Live Version of If I Was Your Mic, and a never heard before remix of Ain't No Happy Endings by Nujabes.
A few FUN FACTS:
This album turned 13 this past Sunday 10/19/2014
There were an album's worth of additional songs recorded and later cut from this album. Most of which were produced by Nujabes.
After this album dropped, I met a fan in Boston that thought there were 3 dudes named Substantial. 1 from Brooklyn (where I lived at the time), 1 from Maryland (where I'm from) & 1 from Japan (where I recorded the album). Sorry bro, same guy. :)
If I Was Your Mic* & Remembering Dave were written when I was 17.
*IIWYM was a concept my friend and former rhyme parter J. Cash came up with when we were in high school. That's why I shout him out in the beginning.
Listen. Enjoy. Share.
Happy Throwback Thursday.

[CAMPAIGN] My Middle School Needs Help Funding Their Passion for Theater
As many of you know, I'm not just an MC, I'm a youth worker/educator. I've been blessed with the opportunity to work with Oxon Hill Middle School for the last 4 school years as a Student Advocate and conducting Music Production & Art workshops after school. Some of my students are working with their Drama teacher to put on a production of Grease and they need our help.
Please contribute and/or help me spread the word. Lets fund these young Kings & Queens' passion for theater.
P.E.A.C.E. & Thanks

[MUSIC] Substantial 'Ain't No Happy Endings' (Nujabes Remix) - #TBT
Some Throwback Thursday awesomeness for you. I'm sure a lot of you guys remember the original version of this track which is, in case you didn't know, my favorite track on my 1st album, To This Union A Sun Was Born. When Nujabes first sent me the original, I fell in love with the beat instantly. FUN FACT: The idea for the title and hook were inspired by a scene in the movie The Last Unicorn.
Anyway, months after the album dropped, this month, 13 years ago, Jun sent me this remix. Still love it (nearly as much as the original).
Listen. Enjoy. Share.
Peace.
