Substantial"s True EOW Stories: Pt. 2 (Sub in NYC 2/28)

In late 2003 or early 2004, EOW gave me my first solo feature at the Dub to promote my first mixtape, 'Substantial Evidence'. By this point I had parted ways with Hyde Out Productions and I was eager to shine on my own while simultaneously showing what the team (UV Ink) I had put together had to offer. I wanted to do something that hadn't been done before so with the help of my big bro, Cyra Unique a.k.a. Mr. Francois, we turned the Dub into a courtroom that night. Cyra dressed in a suit and brought his briefcase and presented 'Substantial Evidence' to show why I was Hip Hop's Best Kept Secret. I was even escorted to the stage in handcuffs... shit was epic LOL.

Over the next few weeks I'll share a few other memorable moments from End Of the Weak, leading up to my show. In the meantime, enjoy the music. Here's a random verse I thru over a beat by one of best fans/supporters the NYC underground ever had, Jersey's own Big True aka John Wellington!

Substantial"s True EOW Stories: Pt. 1 (Sub in NYC 2/28)

In the early 2000s I first started hitting up EOW and participating in their open mic ciphers and world renowned MC Challenge. On this particular day in 2001, I was on my way back from my home state of Maryland and got stuck in traffic for 7 hours, instead of my typical 4 hour trip. I roll up in The Pyramid drained, but I mustered up enough energy to place 5th in the challenge.

Afterward, I walk outside for air, a little disappointed about my performance but happy nonetheless to be amongst friends. I bump into my dude Rok One, fellow Pratt Institute Alum, who just got back from Japan and we do some catching up. The first thing he tells me is "Yo, you're everywhere!!! I was in Tokyo and saw your poster in every record store, clothing store, you name it." Instant ego boost! LOL The disappointment faded and regardless, Zoo and the fam showed love.

I get home that night, and a physical copy of my 1st album, linked below was waiting for me at the door. It was the day I knew things were about to change forever.
