T.Lucas and Substantial's collaboration EP, Dirty Sneakers consists of five tracks produced by Substantial with verses by T.Lucas including features by DJ RBI, JDA, and soul vocalist, Stephanie Gayle.

To many people, sneakers are a status symbol. The brand, price, and condition of your sneakers are sometimes a reflection, accurate or not, of where you are in life. Dirty Sneakers could be a symbol of the struggle, where you have been, or even your level of comfort with where you are in life. Like most things it's based on your perspective. The "Dirty Sneakers" EP takes us on an audio journey with T.Lucas as he shares the ups and downs of the path he has traveled. Every song is a metaphorical scuff or polish as we listen and attempt to walk in his shoes.

MORE ABOUT THE GARDEN:

Substantial defines The Garden, his debut instrumental LP, as a photo album. A collection of self produced instrumentals and photography featuring Uyama Hiroto, Marcus D, Malcolm Jackson, Mason Lieberman, Stephanie Gayle and Gerson Zaragoza. This is a new chapter in his nearly 20 year career, bringing his other talents to the forefront to give a more complete picture of his artistry. 

Substantial attended Suitland High School's Center for Visual & Performing Arts. During his time there, is where he began producing beats using two gemini DJ samplers and an old cassette deck. After graduating, he attended Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY where he began making a name for himself as a MC while producing, so he would have original tracks to rhyme to. Over the years, working with producers such as Nujabes, Oddisee, M-Phazes, Kno of Cunninlynguists and others, he has become known not only for his introspective lyrics but his ear for beats. After working on production in the shadows and teaching music production to teens for years, Substantial is ready to bring his beats into the light and debut as a producer. 

 Visually, The Garden's album art is centered around photos of flowers captured mostly at the Bronx Botanical Garden over a two year period. Each flower is coupled with an instrumental, symbolizing his growth as an artist and his diverse creativity.

New music produced by Substantial featuring fellow Nujabes collaborator and composer, Uyama Hiroto. Beyond The Stage is the latest single from his upcoming instrumental album The Garden which will be releas on May 18th but is available now for pre-order.

Beyond The Stage is an airy, virtual voyage into the nightlife beyond mics, stage lights and soundboards. Substantial states that BTS "is an organic, melodic interpretation of the heartbeat of the nightlife. The things that motivate players, socialites and everyone else in the scene, scouring hole in the wall lounges and bars in search of the perfect vibe."

BTS was released a week earlier courtesy of the good folks at Chillhop Music. Although, it's exclusively available on their YouTube channel right now, the single releases on all streaming sites next Friday, May 1st along with the full version on the song with vocals from Substantial and Stephanie Gayle (formerly known as Steph, The Sapphic Songstress).

In two weeks, Substantial embarks on another adventure out west with Marcus D. The Better To Give Tour starts in Seattle, WA on March 23rd and ends in Los Angeles, CA on March 30th. The guys will be joined by Seattle MC, LaRue and LA beatsmith Trebles and Blues. 

The theme of this tour is music and musicians with a message who back their creations and words with action. During this outing, Substantial will be volunteering and collaborating with Today's Future Sound at Encinal High School in Alameda, CA for a writing and production workshop.
